The Eastern European kolacky has been a staple in Lynn Sticha’s family for years. Lynn’s grandmother has been making the pastry that holds a portion of fruit (apple, raspberry, prune, apricot and even poppy-seed) surrounded by a puffy cushion of dough, her entire life. Lynn and her children recently spent an entire day with her 86-year-old grandmother making several different kinds of kolackys for their church festival. Perfecting the technique of folding the dough was the most challenging, but grandma had the technique down and was eager to demonstrate. “There really isn’t anything better than a warm kolacky right out of the oven,” said Lynn.
