Medicare is the government-run health insurance coverage for those 65 years of age or older, or those with certain disabilities and conditions.

It can be difficult to understand because of its complexity of different plans. And every year, Medicare beneficiaries have the chance to change coverage during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP). Choosing the right plan can not only improve your health, but it can also allow you to have financial and emotional peace of mind.

“We want to help seniors understand this complicated situation and sort through things based on their needs,” said Patricia.

There are some important dates coming up for clients to remember:

• Annual Election Period (AEP): October 15 thru December 7.

• Open Enrollment Period (OEP): January thru March.

• Initial Election Period (IEP): A 7-month window (3 months before birthday month, birthday month, 3 months after birthday month.

• Special Election Periods (SEP) - 63-day period: Medicare rules provide a Guaranteed Issue Period to enroll in Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage (MA), and Prescription Drug Plans (PDP) without underwriting.

As the pandemic period continues, Paul and Patricia want to make sure their clients stay informed in a safe and healthy way.

“We are very concerned about COVID and the impact it is having on our clients that are mostly 65 years or older,” said Paul. “We are continuing to take measures to minimize contact while providing excellent service to our clients.”

The Hamiltons will be calling each of their clients, as they do every year, to discuss various options for the coming year.

“We can schedule in-person or Zoom appointments if any changes need to be made for next year,” said Paul. “We are currently scheduling appointments, so if anyone is getting close to 65 years old or are retiring soon and wants to learn about their options, they can call us to reserve an appointment.”

And the clients appreciate the Hamiltons going above and beyond in making sure they are well informed and understand all their options.

“I have found that Medicare Insurance Advisors truly act in my best interests,” said JoAnn D. “They review my policy and prescriptions annually to make sure I’m getting the best coverage and rate. They are always more than happy to answer my questions, too.”

There are two ways to receive your medical benefits, Medicare & Supplement and Medicare Advantage Plus.

Medicare Supplement (or Medigap) plans pay the co-payments and co-insurance costs not covered by original Medicare Part A (hospital) and B (doctor/services). These private market plans provide comprehensive coverage and are guaranteed renewable.

“The best Medicare Advantage plan is generally the one that includes your doctors in the plan’s network and your medications on the plan’s formulary. You can find Advantage plans from major carriers like United Healthcare, Aetna, UCare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Humana, Medica, and a number of other carriers.” - Patricia

Medicare Advantage (Part C) health plans can provide lower monthly premiums, reasonable co-pays, and often include dental, vision and hearing benefits. These all-in-one plans can be a good option to consider.

Medicare Insurance Advisors won’t pressure its customers into purchasing a Medicare plan, nor will they recommend a particular plan. What they offer is unbiased, easy to understand information about various Medicare options, enabling a customer to choose the plan they feel suits them best.
