Are all senior communities the same?

Dispelling the myths of Assisted Living and Memory Care, as answered by Jen Peters, Outreach and Sales Director at The Sanctuary at St. Cloud.

Myth: You must be rich to live there.

If you are age 65+ with limited income and assets and qualify for the Elderly Waiver, you can live in a lovely Assisted Living or Memory Care with medical care, services, and a lot of perks. There are affordable Assisted Living and Memory Care Communities available in many communities.

Myth: All senior apartments are the same.

Assisted Living and Memory Care offer many support services not offered in general senior communities including restaurant-style meals prepared by chefs, along with weekly laundry and housekeeping services. Senior livings have secured buildings and trained staff members, including nurses, available 24/7. Dozens of optional activities are also available, including live music concerts, game day cheering, or fitness classes. With less stress, people in Assisted Living and Memory Care can enjoy more of life and less of the hassles.

Myth: Keeping track of my health is easy.

When you live in Assisted Living or Memory Care, a nurse is available to help manage your medical challenges. Your senior living package includes supports like medication management, vital sign checks, and more. Most also assist with setting up transportation to medical appointments.

Myth: Senior living communities are boring.

Senior living communities offer private apartment space to relax and recharge and comfortable community spaces for fun and friendships. You can enjoy a private apartment, and later, walk down the hall to visit with friends in the pub, get a haircut, attend a fitness class, take in a movie in the theater, and go for a walk in the gardens. You can get the best of life’s offerings.

Myth: There isn’t enough space for my family to visit.

Senior livings typically have private dining rooms, a theater, lounge spaces, and other family-friendly areas that can be reserved for your family’s use. Assisted Living and Memory Care communities love to support families having fun together!
