Mentors recognized at state level

Big Brother

Big Brother Bill Riner and Little Brother Skyler Figallo


Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota annually recognizes a “Big Brother” and “Big Sister” for their outstanding role as a mentor. “Big Brother” Bill Riner and “Big Sister” Julie Hentges were selected to receive this honor and represent Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota in the statewide competition. The state selects one “Big Brother of the Year” and one “Big Sister of the Year” to represent Minnesota in a national competition. Both candidates were selected as the sole winner in their respective category

This marks the second consecutive year that both the State Big Brother and State Big Sister have been selected from the central Minnesota agency.

Bill Riner has been matched with his Little Brother Skyler Figallo for 5 years. Through the years, Bill has helped Skyler with his homework, introduced him to new hobbies, and provided on-going guidance and support. Recently, the pair has discussed Skyler’s post-secondary education and Bill has helped Skyler explore his options.

Julie Hentges has been matched with her Little Brother Kevin Cao for 6 years. Kevin started out as an English Language Learner student in school and struggled to keep up with his

Vietnamese language and English. Julie spent time assisting Kevin with reading and his school work.  Kevin, now a high school student, excels in academics and sports.
